Adjustments and Exciting News!

A lot has happened since our last blog posting. Apologizes to our followers for not submitting one sooner.

It’s been six months since our diagnosis, and we’re feeling a little more secure in our knowledge about T1D and how Hartley reacts to foods and her insulin injections. What some of you may not know, however, is that she is also going to be a big sister come August! My first thoughts when finding out that we were expecting was “OMG, is this new baby going to be a T1D as well?” My mind raced with thoughts of having to inject an infant with insulin, continually worrying about high and low blood sugar and counting carbs that are so minimal, I wouldn’t even know how to calculate her doses, plus not to mention never sleeping again.

Ugh…

The doctors tell us that the odds of the new babe being a T1D are 3-5%. This was good news for us. After many teary nights talking with my husband about it, he helped me believe that there is no way we wouldn’t be able to handle it if this were to happen. I pray that we spot the symptoms as early as we did with Hartley. However, for now, my main goal as a mama is to grow this new baby and stay as healthy as possible.

Fundraising Efforts

In other news, we are currently the top fundraisers in Saskatchewan for funds raised for the 2019 JDRF SunLife Financial Walk to Cure Diabetes! We made the Top 20 in Canada which, hasn’t been done in Saskatchewan for over 15 years! So thank you to everyone who has donated!

We’ve hosted several fundraising events, one being a family friendly workout at LG Fitness here in Regina and our latest is a brunch fundraiser at a local restaurant, Cathedral Social Hall. We are so grateful for our local businesses stepping up and partnering with us to help raise awareness and funds for the T1D cause. We wouldn’t be able to do it without them.
